Code of Conduct

Through the Muslim Tech Fest, we aim to celebrate Islamic culture, ignite innovation, and open doors for underrepresented talent. Our ethos is centred around respecting one another and promoting inclusivity and diversity within tech.

Please read our guidelines below, as we expect all our guests to follow these.

  1. Respect for ALL attendees: We ask that you treat all attendees, speakers, organisers, volunteers, other members of staff and sponsors with respect and kindness. Any form of discrimination or harassment on the basis of religion, ethnicity, disability, gender, sexual orientation or any other characteristic will not be tolerated.
  2. Professionalism- We ask that you maintain a professional demeanour at all times and refrain from engaging in disrupting behaviour or using offensive language, this includes but is not limited to shouting, swearing, threatening, physical violence or intimidation.
  3. Islamic Principles- We hope you will uphold Islamic principles of ethics and morality in all interactions and discussions during the event. This includes honesty, integrity, and compassion towards others.
  4. Diversity and inclusion- All guests should embrace the diversity within the Muslim tech community. We encourage and welcome participation from individuals regardless of background or experience!
  5. Privacy and confidentiality- Please respect the privacy and confidentiality of others. We ask that you don’t share any personal or sensitive information without consent.
  6. Safe space- The Muslim Tech Fest is a safe space for everyone. We want you to feel comfortable attending, interacting and participating! If you have any concerns or wish to report an incident of harassment or misconduct, please contact the organisers below immediately or reach out to one of the Muslim Tech Fest volunteers.
  7. Speaking up- Harassment is not okay. If you see or hear something which makes you uncomfortable, please please speak up, as the person may not realise their behaviour. We recommend politely engaging and letting the other person know of their actions or please flag to a volunteer.
  8. Abiding by laws and regulations- We ask that you avoid engaging in any illegal or unethical behaviour/activity and follow:
    • The Muslim Tech Fest guidelines
    • Health and safety guidelines of the venue
    • Any other guidelines set by the event organiser, venue and those set by law.
  9. Feedback- We welcome feedback. Please feel free to provide positive or constructive feedback by contacting our event organisers, speaking to volunteers or via email at hello@muslimtechfest.com
  10. Zero tolerance policy- We will NOT accept any form of harassment, including but not limited to:
    • Using offensive language
    • Harassment through photography/recording of others
    • Sustained disruption of talks and workshops
    • Verbal language that reinforces social structures of domination related to gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disabilities, neurodiversity, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity, nationality, race, age, religion, or other protected category
    • Sexual imagery in public spaces
    • Deliberate intimidation
    • Stalking; following
    • Inappropriate physical contact
    • Unwelcome sexual attention
