Yusraa’s Transformative Experience at Muslim Tech Fest
Yusraa, an innovative app designed to connect Muslims to their local masjids, found invaluable support and inspiration at Muslim Tech Fest (MTF). Focused on bridging the gap between Muslims and mosque resources, Yusraa offers real-time updates on prayer times, events, announcements, and volunteer opportunities. Co-founder Aman Farooq shared how attending MTF proved to be a turning point for Yusraa, accelerating its mission to empower communities through technology.
Going into MTF, Yusraa’s team initially hoped to gather a few sign-ups for their waitlist. “We went in with the mindset of… maybe a couple sign-ups,” Aman shared. But as they dove into conversations, they realised how much more MTF had to offer. “Networking was actually working pretty well, so we decided to reach out… to as many people as we could,” he said. This open-minded approach led to connections with influential community leaders and organisations, building a network that will continue to benefit Yusraa as it grows.
A Community Eager to Lift Each Other Up
One of the most impactful aspects of MTF for Yusraa was the sense of genuine support from the community. Aman shared how one MTF participant came across Yusraa’s Instagram page and promptly posted it in the MTF group chat, an act that amplified Yusraa’s visibility almost instantly. This spontaneous support, Aman noted, transformed his understanding of networking. “At MTF, so many people came up to us saying, ‘I know XYZ person who can help with the coding of your app’ or ‘I know someone who could help you with XYZ.’” The warmth and generosity within the MTF community made the experience not just about sharing ideas but about uplifting one another’s missions.
Alongside peer support, Yusraa’s team received advice from industry mentors. Aman noted the guidance from leaders like Sajad, co-founder of Manza and MTF 2024 speaker, which helped shape their approach to challenges they might face. “Having mentors like Sajad point out potential obstacles, along with practical solutions, gave us a clearer roadmap for Yusraa’s future.”
Brotherhood in Action: The Power of Muslim Tech Fest
Reflecting on the event, Aman shared his main takeaway: “I understood the value of networking because the Muslim tech space… is so uplifting.” For him, MTF was a powerful reminder that the spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood can extend beyond words and into meaningful, real-world change. “As Muslims, we love to talk about brotherhood, sisterhood, but at Muslim Tech Fest… I actually saw that brotherhood… be involved in making community change.”
MTF provided Yusraa with more than just connections—it offered a foundation for lasting collaboration, mutual support, and inspiration. For Yusraa, Muslim Tech Fest was a launchpad, empowering their vision of bringing the Muslim community closer through technology.
