Code of Conduct

Creating a safe and inclusive space

Our Commitment

Muslim Tech Fest is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form.

Expected Behavior

All participants are expected to:

  • Be respectful and considerate of others
  • Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and speech
  • Be mindful of your surroundings and fellow participants
  • Alert event staff if you notice a dangerous situation or someone in distress
  • Respect the privacy and personal boundaries of others
  • Engage in constructive dialogue and be open to different perspectives

Unacceptable Behavior

The following behaviors are considered harassment and are unacceptable:

  • Verbal comments that reinforce social structures of domination related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, or religion
  • Sexual images in public spaces
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following
  • Harassing photography or recording
  • Sustained disruption of talks or other events
  • Inappropriate physical contact
  • Unwelcome sexual attention
  • Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior

Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior

Unacceptable behavior from any participant, including sponsors, speakers, volunteers, and organizers, will not be tolerated. Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the event organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the event with no refund.

Reporting

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of event staff immediately. Event staff can be identified by their badges or can be found at the registration desk.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to all Muslim Tech Fest spaces, including the event venue, online platforms, social media, and any other spaces where Muslim Tech Fest activities take place. It also applies to all participants, including attendees, speakers, sponsors, volunteers, and organizers.

Enforcement

Event staff will be happy to help participants contact venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event. We value your attendance and want to ensure everyone has a positive experience.
